Julien’s to Host First Ever Jim Henson Company Auction
The Jim Henson Company has spent 70 years creating a host of imaginative creatures and anthropomorphic animals. Their beloved characters have starred in many great family films and TV shows like The Muppets, Labyrinth, Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, Farscape, and more. In celebration of the company’s milestone anniversary and their impact on entertainment, they are selling some of their treasures in the Jim Henson Company 70th Anniversary Auction at Julien’s.
This auction marks the first time that the Jim Henson Company is offering official items from their films and TV shows to the public. Julien’s will sell over 400 lots of rare items, including over 80 hand-made puppets, plus props, costumes, set pieces, and other memorabilia. The auction is scheduled for November 25, 2025.
Some of the top lots are an Uncle Traveling Matt full body puppet from Fraggle Rock, a hero treasure map prop from Muppet Treasure Island, Naia – Drenchen Gelfling full-body puppet from The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, and Roma, Hubba Hubba, Iver, Grove, and Tula full body puppets from The Hoobs.
More notable highlights are the Squirrel hand and glove puppets from Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas, a goblin helmet from Labyrinth, busts of Dante, Shakespeare, Aristotle, and Molière from The Muppet Christmas Carol, Baby Kermit’s rocking chair from the Muppet baby nursery from The Muppets Take Manhattan, and Miss Piggy signed Cover Girl calendar from 1981.
As part of the auction, Julien’s will offer original art by Carol Spinney, who was known as the puppeteer of Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch in Sesame Street. Not only was Spinney the first person to be the puppeteer of the characters when the show started in 1969, he brought them to life for 49 years until 2018. The auction will include nine of Spinney’s artworks featuring Sesame Street characters like Big Bird, Oscar, Bert and Ernie, Elmo, and others.
