Carol Danvers is a superhero who has had several identities and been a part of multiple teams. She was introduced in Marvel Super-Heroes #13 (March 1968) as an Air Force officer and security chief at a military base where the alien Kree Mar-Vell/Captain Marvel was working. Later, she was caught in an explosion with a Kree device that gave her superhuman abilities.
She became the hero Ms. Marvel, then she was Binary, Warbird, and in 2012, she became Captain Marvel. Using her superstrength, durability, power to shoot energy blasts, flight ability, and prowess as a fighter, Carol Danvers has been an integral part of many battles. She has been in the Avengers and offshoots of the team, Alpha Flight, Guardians of the Galaxy, A-Force, and S.H.I.E.L.D.
When creators Roy Thomas and Gene Colan introduced Danvers in Marvel Super-Heroes #13, the book carried a cover price of 25¢. Two years later when Robert M. Overstreet published the first Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide in 1970, a Near Mint copy was valued at $1.50. Ten years later in the Guide #10, it saw modest growth to $2.25, then in 1990 it took a bigger jumper to $15 for the Guide #20.
The book doubled in value for the Guide #30, landing at $30, then it quadrupled to $120 in 2010’s the Guide #40. For the Guide’s milestone 50th edition in 2020, the issue soared to $4,000. Carol Danvers’ debut in Marvel Super-Heroes #13 took a dip in 2024’s the Guide #54 when a Near Mint copy was valued at $2,200.
