BOOM!; $4.99

Kaitlin Star, J.B. Reese, and Ryan Steele are the VR Troopers, tasked with protecting the Eltarian Colony of Earth. But the basic tenets of their duty become muddled when they find evidence that the Eltarian empire may be keeping things from them.

In this issue, Kaitlin uses her journalism skills to infiltrate Ziktor Industries in the hope of finding answers to what they witnessed at the power plant. Meanwhile, J.B. tells Ryan his theory about the identity of the fugitive from another reality.

VR Troopers spins out of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series, but so far it is accessible to regular and new readers alike. This issue by Mairghread Scott starts with the team interacting outside of a battle situation, giving a nice glimpse at their personalities and group dynamic. Kaitlin gets the spotlight on her mission at Ziktor Industries while Ryan wrestles with the implications of J.B.’s theory.

The art by Sebastián Píriz and colors by J.P. Jordan continue to deliver with high-tech gadgets and colorful suits, and the right amount of detail to bring the setting to life.
