Heritage is hosting an animation showcase auction starring the loveable duo of Rocky and Bullwinkle. The Art of Moose and Squirrel and the Jay Ward Studios is scheduled for September 13, 2025.

Jay Ward was a creator and producer behind several well known animated series like Rocky and Bullwinkle, George of the Jungle, Crusader Rabbit, and Fractured Fairy Tales. He founded Jay Ward Productions in 1948, where they produced animated TV shows, commercials (including designing cereal mascots like Cap’n Crunch), and even some live-action projects.

In their description of the auction, Heritage states that original production art from Jay Ward Studios is rarely found because much of it was destroyed. Their Art of Moose and Squirrel and the Jay Ward Studios Animation Art Showcase Auction offers over 300 lots of production cels, concept art, color key paintings, and promotional materials.

There are items from live-action projects like Fractured Flickers and The Nut House, ephemera from his Mooselvania statehood campaign, Rose Bowl float designs, holiday posters, and studio gifts. It also features items from the collections of Darrell Van Clitters, Sam Clayberger, Michael Kadin, Bob Kurtz, the David Weidman Collection, and the June Foray Archive.

Auction highlights are the Rocky and Bullwinkle Rose Bowl Parade float concept painting “Columbus was Wrong,” Crusader Rabbit drawing made for Frans by Alex Anderson, The Bullwinkle Show “Coming Up Daisies” rare title sequence production background, Rocky and Bullwinkle “Bringing Up Daisies” limited edition cel signed by June Foray, and Rocky and Bullwinkle “Bullwinkle’s Corner” black and white commercial color key painting by Sam Clayberger.

Featured lots are a Rocky and His Friends Bullwinkle J. Moose Studio model sheet print, Jay Ward Productions 22-character scene cel, The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle “Main Title” limited edition cel signed by Foray, The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show scene cel with the pair and Boris and Natasha, Dudley Do-Right of the Mounties “The Disloyal Canadians” rare first episode 12-page storyboard original art, and Fractured Fairy Tales “Sleeping Beauty” rare production background.

The auction also includes a Cap’n Crunch full early cast color model cel with overlay cel and preliminary print group, “Statehood for Moosylvania” band wagon illustration plus letter and brochure, Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends Jay Ward Exhibition poster signed by Ward, Rocky and His Friends Mr. Peabody studio model sheet print group, and Peabody’s Improbable History” Mr. Peabody and Sherman opening recreation signed by Gerard Baldwin.
