Artist Lewis LaRosa began his comics career in the early 2000s, making his mark with finely tuned realism and usage of light and shadow. Now, his work is being collected in the deluxe art book, Carbon Based the Art of Lewis LaRosa. The Oni Press project is seeking backers on Kickstarter.

This is LaRosa’s first career retrospective with over 250 pages of his line art, covers, character designs, concepts, and more. It collects his work from Marvel, Valiant, Epic Games, BOOM! Studios, Creative Beast Studio, and other publishers. Titles showcased in the book include Bloodshot Reborn, Divinity, Harbinger, Punisher MAX, Savage, Shadowman, Uncanny X-Men, A Vicious Circle, and X-O Manowar, among others.

The deluxe hardcover has an introduction by Oni Press President & Publisher Hunter Gorinson, and commentary by LaRosa and former Valiant Editor in Chief Warren Simons. Some of LaRosa’s collaborates and colleagues like Lee Bermejo (Joker), Dave Johnson (Superman: Red Son), Matt Kindt (BRZRKR), Jeff Lemire (Black Hammer), Yanick Paquette (Wonder Woman: Earth One), and others also share their thoughts on his work.

Pledge levels start at $20 for the digital edition, $40 for a Carbon Based t-shirt, and $50 for a foil stamped hardcover. There’s a portfolio print set for $60, slipcase edition for $75, signed slipcase for $100, Archaeopteryx signed giclée for $150, a signed remarque edition for $400, a commission package for $1,000, and cover art package for $6,000.
