Hake’s is continuing their trend of presenting top tier action figures, toy vehicles, and playsets in their current Auction #244. G.I. Joe toys are in one of their spotlight sections, featuring rare and highly sought vehicles and figures from the 1980s toy series.

The large, impressive G.I. Joe Hovercraft (Killer W.H.A.L.E.) Series 3 vehicle AFA 85 is leading the charge. Featured in both the G.I. Joe cartoon and comics, the Killer W.H.A.L.E. Hovercraft is one of the most coveted G.I. Joe vehicles. At the time of cataloging, only ten sealed examples have been graded by AFA with only one graded above AFA 85. This is the first time Hake’s has offered the piece in this high grade condition.

On the action figure side, Hake’s has the Destro Series 2 20-back AFA 85+ (Enemy Weapons Supplier) on a peach file card, which is one of two in this grade with only one higher. The Deep Six (V3; Eco Warriors line) Series 11 AFA 80+ is the Killer Whale variety with the black Finback dolphin sidekick that was rejected at the quality control stage and never released in stores. The Snake Eyes Series 2 20-back AFA 75+ is the scarce “Explosion” card back featuring the “Coming Soon” explosions in place of figure images.

Many vehicles populate the G.I. Joe listings, such as the Wolverine Armored Missile Series 2 vehicle AFA 80 with Cover Girl (Wolverine Driver), box variety without barcode, and peach file card. The Zartan the Enemy with Swamp Skier (Chameleon) Series 3 AFA 85 with Zartan (Dreadnok) is in the original release box featuring “Psychological Profile: Extreme Paranoid Schizophrenic” text that was removed from future releases (none graded higher, per AFA’s Population Report.

The Serpentor Series 5 AFA 85+ Canadian issue piece features the figure and Air Chariot on gray file card (single highest graded). The Cobra H.I.S.S. Series 2 vehicle and driver AFA 75 on pink file card is one of three at grade with only three higher.

Key action figures include the Spirit (V2, Slaughter’s Marauders) AFA 95 on green file card, which is the single highest graded example. The Flash (Laser Rifle Trooper) Series 1 9-back AFA 85 (straight arm) is on unpunched peach file card (one of five examples in grade, just one higher). Major Bludd (Mercenary) Series 2 20-back AFA 80 is on the peach file card.

Hake’s auction is open for bidding at hakes.com, and closes Tuesday and Wednesday, July 29-30, 2025.
