The Punisher is set to face another longstanding frenemy onscreen. Jon Bernthal will play Frank Castle/Punisher in 2026’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Bernthal stepped into the role of the Punisher in 2016 for the Netflix Daredevil series and quickly became a popular character. A year later, he starred in The Punisher spinoff series following Frank Castle as he sought vengeance against the people who killed his family. The show aired two seasons on Netflix.

Bernthal resurrected the Punisher this year for a few episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, which made the move from Netflix to Disney+. He is set to appear in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again and will then star in a Punisher special in 2026 that will be co-written by Bernthal and directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green.

The Marvel and Sony project is the fourth film in the Spider-Man franchise centered around Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man. It began with Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017, then Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019, followed by Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. The third movie marked a significant change in the franchise, set after Mysterio outed Peter Parker as Spider-Man. At the end of that movie, Peter asks Doctor Strange to wipe him from everyone’s memories to protect his loved ones and regain his anonymity.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day plot details have not been announced yet, however, during CinemaCon, Holland told the crowd that the movie “is a fresh start.”

It will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), and Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are expected to return as MJ and Ned, respectively. Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) has been cast in the movie and is rumored to play Mayday Parker/Spider-Girl or Gwen Stacy.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will arrive in theaters on July 31, 2026.
