Karma Kills in I Know What You Did Last Summer Trailer
Actions have consequences, and it’s a lesson a group of friends will learn in the most extreme way possible in I Know What You Did Last Summer. Sony Pictures released a trailer that introduces the next batch of victims to be terrorized by the vengeance seeking Fisherman.
It starts at a lavish engagement party that soon turns sour when the bride-to-be opens a card to find the warning, “I know what you did last summer.” Cut to a year ago when a group of friends are responsible for a terrible accident and did not face the consequences of their actions. As the group questions whether someone else knows what they did, the Fisherman begins attacking – with his trusty hook and a spear gun.
Believing that the cops won’t help them, the group turns to the original survivors of the Southport Fisherman: Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze Jr.). Julie advises them to go on the offensive and try to find the Fisherman, while the group starts to question if one of them is hiding something. The trailer also contains nods to the original movie when the killer stalks one victim into a mannequin filled store, and he finds the Croaker Queen float for the July 4 parade. It ends with Julie James facing the killer and uttering her most famous line from the first movie.
The first I Know What You Did Last Summer movie was loosely based on the novel of the same name by Lois Duncan. It came out in 1997, starring Hewitt, Prinze, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe as recent high school graduates who accidentally hit a man with their car and leave him for dead. But he survives, becomes the Fisherman (played by Muse Watson), and tries to kill the quartet. Hewitt, Prinze, and Watson returned for the sequel in 1998, which also starred Brandy and Mekhi Phifer. An unrelated third film, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, came out in 2006, and a TV series adapted the novel in 2021.
The new I Know What You Did Last Summer stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, and Sarah Pidgeon as the group of friends whose mistake starts another killing spree. Billy Campbell, Austin Nichols, Lola Tung, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez are also part of the cast.
I Know What You Did Last Summer will debut in theaters on July 18.
