
In Memoriam: Jim Henneman
Longtime Baltimore sportswriter and Orioles official scorer Jim Henneman has passed away. According to the team, he died on Thursday, May 22, 2025. He was 89 years old.
“Henny’s friendly demeanor, words of wisdom, and historical anecdotes will be dearly missed. We are all better for knowing him and are eternally grateful for his dedication to the Orioles for more than eight decades,” the Baltimore Orioles said in a statement.
He was a Baltimore native who attended Maryland’s Calvert Hall College High School and Loyola College. The well known Baltimore sports figure was a wealth of knowledge when it came to baseball. He started attending Major League games in the mid-1950s, he also played baseball and coached.
Henneman wrote for the Baltimore News American, Evening Sun, and The Sun, then later wrote columns for PressBoxOnline.com. He was also the principal official scorer for the Orioles from 1997 to 2019. In 2015 Henneman wrote the book, Baltimore Orioles: 60 Years of Orioles Magic. In 2024, the Orioles officially named their press box, “The Jim Henneman Press Box.”
