Alex Ross, one of the world’s most preeminent and well-respected comic book artists, will be the subject of an upcoming art exhibition. The Alex Ross: Heroes & Villains special exhibit will be held at the Dunn Museum in Libertyville, Illinois. It opens on June 29, 2025, and runs through February 16, 2026.

The Dunn Museum exhibit will showcase 100 portraits of comic book characters displaying Ross’ signature realistic, fine art style. Ross created three new portraits specially for the event, which will be unveiled at the opening and displayed throughout the exhibition.

The Dunn Museum will introduce the exhibit with “A Night with Alex Ross” on Saturday, June 28 from 5 PM to 8 PM. Guests who attend the ticketed event will have the chance to interact with Ross and experience a private preview of the exhibit before it opens for the public.

Ross started at Marvel in 1994 where he illustrated the publisher’s central characters in Marvels, quickly establishing himself within superhero comics. From there, he painted superhero covers for Superman: Doomsday & Beyond, cocreated Astro Boy for Image Comics, and worked on the DC Comics limited series Kingdom Come. He drew lenticular covers for DC and produced fully painted, tabloid-sized renderings of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman for their 60th anniversaries. Over the years, Ross has worked on Earth X, Project Superpowers, Avengers/Invaders, The Green Hornet, Captain Victory, The Amazing Spider-Man, Captain America, Black Panther, Iron Man, Immortal Hulk, and many other titles.

“I am thrilled to join with the Dunn Museum again for this new exhibit. To see so many of my original paintings on display all in one place is very special. It gives me a new perspective on the breadth of my work and I hope visitors enjoy the experience,” Ross said.

The Dunn Museum is located at 1899 W. Winchester Road in Libertyville, Illinois.
