Sabrina the Teenage Witch #1 Facsimile, New Collection Out in August
Sabrina the Teenage Witch is putting a spell on comic shops in August 2025 with a facsimile edition of the first issue and a new collected edition.
Sabrina Spellman, created by George Gladir and Dan DeCarlo, made her debut appearance in Archie’s Madhouse #22 (October 1962). Her mother was an ordinary human, and her father was a witch, leaving Sabrina to be a “half-witch.” She lives in the fictional town of Greendale, near Riverdale, with her witch aunts Hilda and Zelda, and former witch turned cat, Salem.
She not only struggles with controlling her powers but the day-to-day trials of school, friends, and family. Sabrina often attempts to use her powers to help both herself and others, but must do so in secret as mortals are not supposed to know that witches exist. Through her aunts’ guidance and numerous trips to the magical dimension known alternatively as the Magic Realm, Sabrina learns about the proper use of her powers.
Sabrina the Teenage Witch #1 (April 1971) marked the beginning of the magical teen’s own comic book series. Featuring the work of Dan DeCarlo, Frank Doyle, George Gladir, and others, it kicked off a popular series that combined spells with teen life for a magical long-running book. The 48-page facsimile of the first issue will arrive in comic shops on August 27, 2025.
Jumping from the original run to a modern favorite, Archie Comics is also publishing Sabrina the Teenage Witch: The Book of Magic collected edition. The 256-page book collects the Sabrina series written by Kelly Thompson and illustrated by Veronica Fish in which Sabrina tries to maintain her life as a high schooler and explore her growing power. Sabrina has recently moved to Greendale with her aunts, meets new friends, love interests, and rivals, plus supernatural mayhem and a portal to a paranormal world.
The book was also written by Danielle Paige, and features art by Andy Fish, Veronica Johnson, Matt Herms, and Jack Morelli. It will be in comic book stores on August 6.
