Prom night is supposed to be a magical night of fun and romance that is usually marred by some kind of drama. But, for the Shadyside High senior class of 1988 a little drama is the least of their problems.

Netflix release the first full-length trailer for Fear Street: Prom Queen, the latest adaptation based on one of R.L. Stine’s young adult books. The movie will return to the town of Shadyside, the setting of the 2021 Fear Street movie trilogy that took place in the 1990s, the ‘70s, and the 1600s.

“Prom season at Shadyside High is underway and the school’s wolfpack of It Girls is busy with its usual sweet and vicious campaigns for the crown. But when a gutsy outsider puts herself in the running, and the other girls start mysteriously disappearing, the class of ’88 is suddenly in for one hell of a prom night,” per the official synopsis.

The trailer starts with a somewhat blurry Shadyside High news video about the upcoming prom. Then we meet members of the senior class – the girl next door, the oddball, the crush-worthy boy, and the mean pretty girls. Once prom gets underway, an axe wielding killer starts slashing through the populace while Belinda Carlisle’s iconic ‘80s hit, “Heaven is a Place on Earth” plays in the background.

Fear Street: Prom Queen stars India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, David Iacono, Ella Ruin, Chris Klein, Ariana Greenblatt, Lili Taylor, Katherine Waterson, and Dakota Taylor. It is directed by Matt Palmer, who co-wrote the script with Donald McLeary, based on Stine’s The Prom Queen book.

The movie will start streaming on Netflix on May 23, 2025.
