Netflix and the Pokémon Company have teamed up for the English-dubbed version of Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution, the 2019 computer-animated remake of the 1998 film Pokémon: The First Movie. The remake of the first Pokémon film released in Japanese theaters last summer and will finally be seeing its U.S. debut soon.

Following the plot of the original film, Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution follows Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu as they travel to a mysterious island under the assumption that they would be facing off against the “world’s greatest Pokémon trainer.” But when they get there, they are shocked to learn that the trainer is a Pokémon – Mewtwo, a genetically-engineered clone of the mythical Mew. Resenting the cruel nature of his human creators, Mewtwo has vowed revenge, leading to an extensive battle against Ash and company.

Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution arrives on Netflix on February 27, 2020 – the 24th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise at large.
