CGC 7.5 Showcase #4 Added to ComicLink Auction
ComicLink has added Showcase #4 CGC 7.5, the key that launched the Silver Age at DC, to their Focused Auction, which opens on July 16, 2020.
“This is an outstanding example of Showcase #4 in CGC’s VF- tier with supple, off-white page quality. This historic DC issue published in 1956 is very hard to find in a condition as high as 7.5. Showcase #4 is important in comic book history not only for introducing one of DC’s most popular heroes, the Barry Allen version of the Flash, but for also being the beginning of the return of superheroes as the dominant genre in comic books, the beloved era known as the Silver Age,” ComicLink founder and Managing Director, Josh Nathanson said.
The Golden Age of superheroes that began in 1938 had faded by the late 1940s giving way to other genres like crime, horror, and romance. By the mid-1950s, only Superman/Superboy, Batman, and Wonder Woman were still featured in their own comic book titles. The success of Showcase #4 led to the revival of other Golden Age DC heroes including Green Lantern, the Atom, and Hawkman and to the creation of the Justice League of America in 1960. Marvel’s superhero line was rejuvenated by Fantastic Four in 1961. Soon superheroes started dominating comics again, which has continued to today.
The Flash has seen lots of attention outside of comics in recent years through the TV show, which has been renewed for a seventh season, and a different interpretation of the character in the Justice League movie. The DCEU version is also set for his own feature film to be released in 2022.
“With so much activity surrounding this major DC figure, we can only expect interest to continue to rise for any example of this historic issue,” Nathanson added.
ComicLink is accepting consignments now for valuable comic books and comic and fantasy related original art for upcoming auctions including the Focused Auction, as well as the Summer Featured Auction beginning on August 13. There is also a CertifiedLink.com Auction beginning on July 16 featuring certified coins, cards, video games and other memorabilia.
Auction placement can be reserved by emailing buysell@comiclink.com or calling the sales team at (617) 517-0062. Upfront cash advances are available.
