Leading up to The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #50 release, Gemstone Publishing will commemorate the milestone by diving into the publication’s rich history. Over the Guide’s five decades in print, thousands upon thousands of comic books have been priced, the market has been meticulously studied, and creators, characters, and publishing houses have been featured with detailed coverage. With the 50th edition comes time to revisit how comic values have steadily (sometimes astronomically) risen over the years and reflect on contributions made in crafting the Guide.

Covid-19 has caused a near total shutdown of conventions this year. The cancellation of Comic-Con International has been particularly disappointing for Gemstone Publishing and the Overstreet brand because this year we celebrate our 50th Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide. Despite the disruption of live celebrations, we are still excited to share this experience with the Guide’s readers and supporters. Since we can’t be at Comic-Con to hand out the Guide to retailers, we decided to look back at when the 45th Guide went on sale and our publisher Robert M. Overstreet handed out copies in San Diego. We’re also revisiting a video made during that 2015 Comic-Con in which several people talk about the Guide’s impact.
