Regina King to Direct Bitter Root Film Adaptation
Actress-director Regina King has been tapped to direct the Bitter Root film adaptation. The movie is based on the Harlem Renaissance-set comic series by David F. Walker, Chuck Brown, and Sanford Green.
Set in 1924 New York City, the Sangeryes are a family of monster hunters who seek and cure people who have been infected by supernatural forces that are feeding on the prejudice of the time period. Now the surviving members of the family are facing the difficult choice of saving creatures or killing them to stop an invasion.
This announcement comes shortly after King made her feature film directorial debut with One Night in Miami, for which she received a Golden Globe nomination. Her onscreen work includes playing Angela Abar/Sister Night in Watchman, as well as American Crime, Ray, and If Beale Street Could Talk.
King will produce with Legendary Pictures, along with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian of Proximity Media. Comic creators Walker, Brown, and Green will executive produce the film adaptation, along with Sean Owolo of Drapetomedia.
