Rare, Early Animation Screening at Society of Illustrators Nov. 12

On Friday, November 12, 2021, the Society of Illustrators is hosting a special, unique screening. They will be presenting “New York Animation: The Beginning,” with early, rare New York animation series and characters shown on 16mm film.

The selection of movies is curated and presented by early animation historian, archivist, and preservationist Tommy José Stathes. Featured films were directed by Otto Messmer, Max Fleischer, Walter Lantz, Charles Bowers, and Paul Terry and star characters like Felix the Cat, Koko the Clown, Dinky Doodle, Mutt and Jeff, and Aesop’s Fables.

The event begins at 7 PM at 128 East 63rd Street in New York, New York. Tickets can be purchased on the Society of Illustrators website.
