Marvel Series Announcements from Disney+ Day
On Disney+ Day, the streaming giant made many announcements for upcoming programing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During the event, held on Friday, November 12, 2021, they presented a 14-minute sizzle reel that highlighted the past, present, and future shows. It recapped WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and What If…? then previewed new series Hawkeye, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel.
Since Hawkeye premieres on Disney+ on November 24, it was given a longer clip that shows Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) getting to know each other through conversation and car chases.
The Moon Knight portion of the sizzle reel introduces Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector, the former Marine with dissociative identity disorder who becomes the avatar of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu.
Next up was a clip from She-Hulk featuring Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, the lawyer who becomes She-Hulk. Mark Ruffalo is back as Bruce Banner to help his cousin in her transformation.
The final extended preview portion teased Ms. Marvel, introducing Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. Like the comics, Kamala idolizes Captain Marvel, fashioning her superhero identity after the heroine once she gains powers.
Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel will join the streaming service in 2022.
From there, the sizzle reel turns to series early in production by showing off some new title cards for live-action and animated series. New live-action series in development include Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (written and directed by James Gunn), Echo (with Alaqua Cox as the titular heroine who will be introduced in Hawkeye), Loki season two, Ironheart (with Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams the teenage genius who builds an Iron Man-like suit), Agatha: House of Harkness (a WandaVision spinoff with Kathryn Hahn reprising her role as Agatha), Armor Wars (with Don Cheadle returning as James Rhodes), and Secret Invasion (with Samuel L. Jackson back as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, the Skrull).
The animated series are I Am Groot (a series of original shorts), What If…? season two, X-Men ’97 (a continuation of the ‘90s animated series), Spider-Man: Freshman Year (about Peter Parker’s early days), and Marvel Zombies (spinning off the What If…? episode).
Disney+ did not disclose specific release dates for the upcoming series, with the exception of X-Men ’97, which is set for 2023.
