Simu Liu, Jim Lee to Appear on Sesame Street
As a part of the introduction of their first Asian-American Muppet Ji-Young, Sesame Street is hosting several Asian and Pacific Islander celebrities for a special appearance.
Titled See Us Coming Together: A Sesame Street Special, the episode will include appearances by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu and DC Publisher & CCO Jim Lee. The show will also feature tennis player Naomi Osaka, To All the Boys star Anna Cathcart, Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi, and celebrity chef Melissa King.
The title of the special references a song that Ji-Young and the cast will sing in response to racist remarks aimed at the new Muppet. It will be part of Sesame Workshop’s “Coming Together” initiative that teaches kids about race and culture.
“I am so excited, thrilled and honored to announce that I’ll be appearing on [Sesame Street] this Thanksgiving day, welcoming its newest resident, a 7-year-old Korean-American girl named Ji-Young,” Lee tweeted.
“I’ve had the privilege of experiencing so many incredible things over the past couple of years, but this definitely sticks out. Welcome to Sesame Street, Ji-Young! I’m so glad I got to hang out with you,” Liu tweeted.
See Us Coming Together: A Sesame Street Special will debut on November 25, 2021, on HBO Max, PBSKids, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
