The friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has quite the task to complete in the new trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

In the stinger for Spider-Man: Far From Home, Quentin Beck/Mysterio outed Peter Parker (Tom Holland) as Spider-Man. Desperate to regain his anonymity, Peter seeks help from Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to erase that juicy tidbit from everyone’s memory – and it goes very wrong.

The multiverse has cracked open and a host of Spider-Man villains are descending on this version of Peter Parker’s New York. In the new trailer, Doctor Strange tells Peter that he has to stop these villains from the multiverse, revealing that many of them died while fighting Spidey. This doesn’t sit well with Peter who challenges Doctor Strange, possibly setting even bigger changes in motion.

No Way Home brings together Spider-Man villains from across three of the character’s franchises. So far we’ve seen plenty of Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus (who originally faced Tobey Maguire in 2004’s Spider-Man 2). The new trailer features Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin (a role he originated opposite Maguire in Spider-Man in ’02). We also get to see Jamie Foxx back as Electro (who challenged Andrew Garfield in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2). There are also brief shots of Lizard (a Garfield villain from The Amazing Spider-Man in ’12) and Sandman (a Maguire villain from 2007’s Spider-Man 3). There’s also a quick shot of what could be the Green Goblin that Garfield faced in his second outing as Spider-Man.

With so many great villains in the movie, it’s expected that Maguire and Garfield will also appear. Neither are in the trailer, nor are they listed in the credits on IMDb, so it’s likely that Sony/Marvel plan to keep the reveal hidden as long as possible.

Also returning are current series stars Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, and Tony Revolori. No Way Home will be in theaters on December 17, 2021.
