ComicConnect is currently running an auction of VHS tapes with nearly a hundred graded movies.

“While VHS and other tapes have been collected for over 40 years, only recently, and primarily with the introduction of certification by companies like IGS, have values in tapes exploded,” ComicConnect COO Vincent Zurzolo said. “Some of these movies are impossibly rare to find, especially factory sealed copies, reaching prices over $30,000 for first prints of Terminator and Star Wars.”

Among the auction highlights is a copy of the classic family-adventure, The Goonies. “Famously referred to as the ‘Action Comics #1 of VHS’, a sealed first print Goonies is likely the rarest and most desirable video tape of all time,” Zurzolo said. “Another ‘80s favorite, a 1984 CBS/Fox Red Label copy of Star Wars, is an early printing in stunningly high grade.”

Horror titles include Signature Series copies of Halloween, Scream, and Jeepers Creepers, plus early releases of cult classics Killer Klowns from Outer SpaceEvil DeadPumpkinhead, and Saw.

Highlights include the first print 1986 Betamax copy of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, as well as a Betamax copy of Pretty in PinkTop Gun in rare Video 8 format, and a 1997 DVD copy of Space Jam.

“Video tapes offer a perfect mix of nostalgia and investment,” Zurzolo said. “We’re always offering new categories of alternative investments to our clientele and certified video tapes feel like the next big thing.”
