Tripwire 30th Anniversary Book
Heavy Metal Entertainment is partnering with Tripwire Editor in Chief Joel Meadows to publish a book that celebrates the 30th anniversary of the magazine and website. The Tripwire 30th Anniversary softcover book contains over 200 pages of content showcasing Tripwire’s 30 years of coverage on comics and genre industry, as well as new content. They have also launched a crowdfunding campaign on Zoop where hardcover editions and art prints are available for preorder.
Tripwire is a UK comics and pop culture magazine that began in 1992 as a fanzine, then became a professional magazine in ’97 and a website in 2015. The magazine covers comics, film, and TV, and has interviewed important figures in those industry like Guillermo del Toro, Frank Miller, Mike Mignola, Alan Moore, and others.
The Tripwire 30th Anniversary book features a cover designed by Kit Caoagas and has a foreword by Dirk Wood of Image Comics and an introduction by PREVIEWS editor Marty Grosser. Interviews with Moore, Miller, and Mignola are reprinted with other previously featured stories, and Scott Braden’s Lost Tales comic series. It also features a new Sherlock Holmes and The Empire Builders comic by Meadows and co-creator/artist Andy Bennett, and a new Fred the Clown comic strip by Roger Langridge.
It will have pinups and art from Jock (Batman), Drew Struzan (Indiana Jones), Frank Miller (Sin City, Dark Knight), Walter Simonson (Thor, Ragnarok), Bill Sienkiewicz (Moon Knight, Batman), Laurence Campbell (Hellboy), and others. Meadows is contributing anniversary-themed stories about Heavy Metal’s history, Marvel movies of the last 30 years, and a list of 30 independent creators who have had an impact on the industry.
“Tripwire hit a real milestone this year and we felt we had to commemorate it with something special. We had been talking with Heavy Metal for the last year or so and it all came together over the past few months. We had been looking at different ways of working with Kris Longo and Joseph Illidge at Heavy Metal and it has been great that this has come to fruition,” Meadows said. “The Tripwire 30th Anniversary book is the ultimate celebration of three decades of Tripwire and 30 years of comics and pop culture seen through our unique journalistic prism.”
This year is also the 45th anniversary of Heavy Metal, the sci-fi, fantasy, and horror company that is the home of the magazine and animated film of the same name.
“Just as the seminal British Invasion of comics changed the medium, industry, and world-at-large forever through the talents of luminaries such as Neil Gaiman, Dave McKean, and Alan Moore, it was Tripwire magazine that charted the evolution of artistic and literary perspectives in comics and graphic novels through a unique lens. Through the ups and downs of comics journalism, Tripwire endures, and we are a better community for it,” Heavy Metal Executive Editor Joseph Illidge said.
The Tripwire 30th Anniversary book retails for $40. It will be out on October 25, 2022 and can be ordered via Diamond Comic Distributors.
