ComicConnect Reports Event Auction #54 Results

ComicConnect’s Event Auction #54, which closed on June 5-9, 2023, produced a steady string of headline ready results with Journey into Mystery #83 9.4 leading all bids at $350,400.

“Collectors understand that with extreme rarity comes high value and when a Near Mint first appearance of Thor, with only one known copy graded higher, comes to auction bidders will show up in force,” ComicConnect’s co-founder Vincent Zurzolo said. “This auction produced the second highest price ever paid at grade. Once again, I’d like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to every single participant on either side of the hammer.”

The auction featured blue chip keys, hundreds of original art lots, certified video tapes, and pulps. Top auction sales included Batman #1 2.0 for $176,500, Iron Man #1 9.9 for $106,000, Superman #1 2.0 for $281,750, and Suspense Comics #11 9.8 Promise Collection for $147,000.

Golden Age highlights were Beware Terror Tales #6 9.4 Crowley for $21,850, Blue Bolt #112 9.0 for $19,822, All Star Comics #8 2.5 for $27,000, and Tales from the Crypt #46 9.4 for $17,500.

Silver, Bronze, and Modern Age sales included Amazing Spider-Man #129 9.8 for $23,000, Incredible Hulk #1 8.0 for $111,157, Iron Man #1 9.8 for $27,100, New Mutants #98 9.9 for $40,250, Sub-Mariner #1 9.8 for $9,400, Thor #165 9.8 for $25,000, and Ultimate Fallout #4 9.8 Stan Lee Signature variant edition for $43,000.

Art sales were led by the Incredible Hulk #154 cover by Herb Trimpe for $83,375, Conan the Barbarian #12 cover by Gil Kane for $66,701, Weird Science #21 page by Wally Wood for $46,000, and Amazing Spider-Man #325 page by Todd McFarlane for $39,905.
