ComicConnect Adds More Comics, Art to Event Auction
ComicConnect’s July Mega Monthly Auction starts closing on August 12, 2024, and they are also busy adding vintage comics and original art to the upcoming Event Auction 59. New finds include a Superman #1 and the birth of the Marvel Universe in Marvel Comics #1, plus Jack Kirby and Joe Simon’s Manhunter intro in Adventure Comics #73. There are more firsts with Captain America Comics #1, Wonder Woman’s first cover on Sensation Comics #1, and 1941’s Green Lantern #1.
Ruben Blades’ Detective Comics run includes Batman’s second cover appearance on issue 29, alongside his introduction in issue 27, and pre-Batman issues going back to issue 1. Barry Allen’s Flash speeds into the start of DC’s Silver Age in Showcase #4, and the Fantastic Four does the same for Marvel in Fantastic Four #1 6.5, alongside Dr. Doom’s debut in Fantastic Four #5.
Event Auction 59’s new original art listings include Mac Raboy’s preliminary cover art for Captain Marvel Jr. #31 (his last for the book), plus Jack Kirby’s art (with Wally Wood finishing) on a signed page from Tales of Suspense #72 featuring the Red Skull. There’s double-Thor action as Kirby sends the God of Thunder time-traveling in Journey Into Mystery #86, and John Byrne has Thor unleashing Mjolnir in a half-splash from Avengers #165.
Featured original art includes Steve Ditko’s ghastly image for the Ghostly Haunts #27 cover, Mike Zeck’s Captain America #269 cover that showcases his talent on the title, and a signed Frank Miller page from Daredevil #172, with Klaus Janson inking Daredevil, the Kingpin, Bullseye, Vanessa Fisk, and Turk.
