Superman Daily Strip Art Soars
spectacular piece of Superman history is up for grabs; the original art for the
Superman daily newspaper strip from April 30, 1945. The story deals with
Superman playing baseball with a team and using his hand instead of a bat.
Hilarity ensues as he punches the ball out of the park, and as one player
exclaims, “Holy smoke! It’s headed for Mars! Good-bye
ball!”
The Superman daily newspaper strip ran from 1939 through
1966 and was brought back from 1977 to 1983. The strip added to the Superman
mythos by give his home planet a name – Krypton. Also, Superman’s parents were
also named, and Superman received a Kryptonian name of his own – Kal-L. What
would Superman be without his birth parents, Krypton, and for that matter, his
weakness, Kryptonite?
This piece is sure to be a home-run with
collectors, as it combines two great American pastimes, Superman and baseball!
