Morphy Summer Sale Tops $1.4 Million
easily broke the million dollar mark. Buyers from around the world bid on a wide
selection of lots from mechanical banks, action figures, toys, cast iron lots
and much, much more. The event closed June 15, 16 and 17, 2006. With over 2,200
lots, the auction found hobbyists from everywhere jumping for joy.
“We
are simply nothing without the incredible customers who support us.” said Dan
Morphy at the end of the event. “From their knowledge to the smiles we see when
they discover something new or hidden, they are the ones who make up this hobby.
We are just lucky they allow us to help them in their search for the right
item.”
There were some standout sales in the event that amazed everyone.
A Regina Single Door Dragon Front Music box blew away pre-auction estimates when
it sold for $18,700. Coca-Cola collectibles, always a popular section for
Morphy, were strong across the board. A 1903 Coca Cola Serving Tray went for
$14,000.
In toys, there were highlights everywhere. Form Popeye to
Pre-war robots, collectors had a lot to choose from. They clearly responded to
the wide selection. Among the long list of sales one lot still stands out. A
Japanese I.Y. Metal toys Friendly Motorcycle with Original Box brought $8,000. A
Metal Ferris Wheel Clock Work Toy went for $1,100.
