everyone that the collecting hobby is enjoying a great run. The strength of the
market is demonstrated by the sale of an original Peanuts daily dated 08-31-64
which brought $19,250. Another standout was the prices received for art from the
E.C. Picto-Fiction series. We are featuring some of those below.
One of
the most important pieces of the auction was the original art for a Silly
Symphony Sunday Page dated 09-06-36. The art, by Al Taliaferro, is thought to be
the earliest Donald Duck Sunday newspaper original art to exist.
The art
of Gino D’Achille continues to bring great results among the collecting
community. The artist, who first made his name illustrating the David Kossof
book Bible Stories, is well known as the cover artist for the Edgar Rice
Burroughs series John Carter of Mars. D’Achille’s painting for the cover
to A Princess of Mars brought $25,850. Cochran featured several of his
original paintings as well as drawings.
The auction was held on Ebay
Liveauctioneers and attracted bidders from around the world. His next auction is
scheduled for September 11,2006 and will feature more art from D’Achille as well
as another amazing assortment of original art from E.C. Picto-Fiction and
newspapers.
