The Integrity of Doc Savage
Savage should have been known the Man of Integrity. From his first appearance in
the pulp magazines of the 1930’s, Doctor Clark Savage, Jr. displayed the
characteristics of a true hero, a man young men and woman could look up to and
strive to emulate.
Savage set the bar for all other heroes that came
after him. Through is rigorous mental and physical conditioning, his physical
presence and his dedication to helping others, Savage became the template in
which many creators look to in developing new characters. His influence was felt
in the creation and development of Clark Kent, the Man of Steel, from subtleties
like the similarity in names and behavior to the Fortress of
Solitute.
From his creed, to the membership card in the Doc Savage Club
(see below), Doc Savage expected as much from his fans as he did of himself. His
legacy has been extended from the pages of pulp magazines, to novels, comics and
film, for more than 70 years. The concept of integrity has never become
outdated, as Doc Savage will be making his triumphant return to print later this
year from Nostalgia Ventures.
The Doc Savage Creed:
Let
me strive every moment of my life, to make myself better and better, to the best
of my ability, that all may profit by it.
Let me think of the right
and lend all my assistance to those who need it, with no regard for anything but
justice.
Let me take what comes with a smile, without loss of courage.
Let me be considerate of my country, of my fellow citizens and my
associates in everything I say and do.
Let me do right to all, and
wrong no man.
