Black Flame of the Amazon
jungles of South America on the Mutual Network during the 1930s. Along with his
native guide, Keyto, young friends Jim and Jean Brady, and aide Pedro, Harold
faces the perils of the rainforest with bravery and humor.
Black Flame of
the Amazon featured many storylines that centered on facing wild animals,
capturing lawless rebels, and navigating native customs without offense (amid
plenty of confusion).
The show was sponsored by Hi-Speed Gasoline and
Mayrose Meats during its run, which lasted on and off until 1938. A total of
seven premiums related to the series were released including a stamp, a paper
mask, a 21.5″ x 17″ map, a cardboard rule, a Hi-Speed Explorer litho button, a
Hi-Speed Explorer brass ring, and a Paco Explorer club button. The
extraordinarily detailed map is among the rarest of the items and it’s the most
expensive. In mint condition, the item is worth $600.
