Sotheby’s to Auction 710 Year Old Magna Carta

A historic document containing the basic freedoms of the English People and the need for curbing the powers of the king is scheduled to be auctioned by Sotheby’s in December. The original Magna Carta was signed by King John in 1215. The document was reissued with each monarch that succeeded King John. 

The copy scheduled to be listed by Sotheby’s is from the year the Magna Carta was enacted into law by the English Parliament, 1997. This was also the year it was reissued for King Edward I. The document is being listed by the Perot Foundation. The money will be used to make philanthropic grants through the foundation. Sotheby’s can be found at http://www.sothebys.com/
