After setting numerous record prices, the collectibles portion of Hake’s Americana & Collectibles’ auction ended late Thursday afternoon. The second day results mirrored the results of the political Americana collectibles from Wednesday, which also ended with strong results.

The key standout item of the auction was a pair of rare, 1930s 44" tall Mickey and Minnie Mouse display dolls by Charlotte Clark that shattered the exisitng records of any Disney toy or merchandise by selling for $151,534. The previous record holder was the The Mad Doctor, a one-sheet, which sold in March 2006 for $138,000.

Classic comic character collectibles were strong in the auction, with high-grade items and rarities leading the pack. Vintage cereal boxes and collectible watches saw impressive results. A Jay Ward watch with papers realized $2,574 and a rare Pinocchio Sears exclusive boxed watch set brought $1,669. High-end cereal boxes were a favorite with collectors as a 1940s era Kellogg’s Pep Cereal Box with Paratrooper offer and a Pep pin advertisement featuring Superman sold for $632.

Original comic art received heavy interest from buyers with several key sales including an Alex Ross Kingdom Come Superman promotional painting selling for $10,120 and a Captian Marvel Jr. painting by C.C. Beck bringing $8,379. Disney original art was also strong in the auction with a Disney Good Housekeeping original art page by Hank Porter titled Goofy’s Glider realizing $5,750.

Other key auction highlights included a rare 1931 Mickey Mouse Circus pull toy that sold for $6,142, a scarce 1920 Tarzan movie serial photo button realized $3,687, a 1946 Marvel Bunny boxed statuette closed at $2,530, a 1966 Batman painted plaster figural string holder brought $2,277, and a 1926 Oz club member’s badge sold for $862. All prices realized include Hake’s 15% buyer’s premium.

“I was blown away by the overwhelming response from our bidders in auction #192. The diversity of our collectors’ interests combined with the diversity of the collectibles we offer resulted in record prices in many of the multitude of genres we offer. From the Mickey and Minnie Mouse Charlotte Clark display dolls, to the Alex Ross Superman art, to a rare Jay Ward wrist watch, Hake’s continues to provide consignors with a stellar outlet for their items,” said Hake’s Americana General Manager Alex Winter.
