Action Comics and X-Men at Heritage
In less than two weeks Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas will be hosting another fantastic auction with amazing comics and comic art. The Comic and Vintage Comic Art auction set for February 28-29, 2008, has been praised by Lon Allen, Director of Sales for Heritage’s Comics Division, as an auction that, “truly offers something for everyone.”
Comics and pulps offered by Heritage are always among the best available. This month they are selling a beautiful copy of Action Comics #7 CGC 8.0 with off-white to white pages; it’s the highest graded copy of the book. The auction includes 33 Mile High copies of Adventure Comics numbered between issues #44 and #102. There’s a great run of Weird Tales, including hard to find issues, and every Conan, Solomon Kane, and Kull story published during Robert E. Howard’s life. Weird Tales was described by Allen as “the magazine that first presented such important authors as (Howard), the creator of Conan, H.P. Lovecraft, Robert Bloch, Fritz Leiber, Theodore Sturgeon, and Ray Bradbury.”
Heritage has some very rare comic art listed in the auction. There’s an early Peanuts daily featuring an early appearance of Schroeder at the piano, a rare Far Side panel by Gary Larson and a 16 x 20” Carl Barks oil painting. Capping off the original art section are the two pages from X-Men #1 by Jack Kirby and Paul Reinman. One page depicts Iceman, Cyclops, the Beast, the Angel, and Professor X as the team is preparing to meet their newest member, Marvel Girl, and the second page features incredible X-Men villain Magneto destroying a U.S. Army base.
