Geppi’s Entertainment Auctions is offering character buttons from cartoons to monsters this week in on Hake’s Americana’s website. Join the circus club with a “Mary Hartline Canada Dry Super Circus Club” button, full color tin litho from 1951, measuring 1-5/8”. Enjoy a laugh with an “Abbott & Costello Keep’Em Flying” button from 1941 for their classic military comedy, measuring 7/8”; and get scared with 5 of 6 Universal Monster Series button set from the 1960s, measuring 7/8” this tin litho lot includes Mummy, Creature, Wolfman, Frankenstein, and Phantom, in near mint condition.
Heroes abound from the west to the space age to the four-legged this week. Hake’s Americana is offering a “Rocky Jones Space Ranger” with sponsor imprint button, measuring 1-3/8” from the 1950s; and a “Rin-Tin-Tin” movie button from the early 1930s, measuring 1.25”, the cello is in excellent condition. Don’t forget about those cowboys with a “Tom Mix and Tony” portrait button from the 1930s set of 25 different movie stars issued with gum in a wrapper titled “Button Gum”, 99% of the paint is complete, it measures .75”
Vintage cartoons and comics have left their imprint this week at Hake’s. Boast about a Pinocchio sighting with an “I’ve Seen ‘Pinocchio’ At Hudson’s” button, measuring 1.5” this black and white, shaded red button from the 1950s or earlier comes from a Detroit department store. Represent the comics with a “Foxy Grandpa” button with “Prize Badge” backpaper, circa 1902. It is one of the earliest comic strip promotional buttons, measuring 1.25”, and reads “Presented By New York Journal”; and an “Ignatz” Mouse button from a 1930s newspaper contest, reads “Ignatz Mouse New York Evening Journal” with serial number, it measures 1.25”.
