Munny for Reading is Fundamental
Charitable auctions have become a rising staple for a good comic book convention. Two weeks ago a talented group of artists came together at the Atlanta Comics Expo on February 8-10, 2008 to support RIF, Reading is Fundamental. The results of their artistic efforts are being auctioned on eBay, which began this past Sunday, February 24, 2008.
The artists each created a personalized Munny, which is a vinyl action figure with moveable joints produced by toy pioneers KidRobot. The Munny is basically a do-it-yourself action figure which the owner can decorate themselves. KidRobot and Criminal Records donated blank Munnys for the charitable effort.
Atlantic Comics Expo asked artists to participate in two different ways. The first was to create an “Iron Munny” onsite during the convention using only the supplies they brought with them and the second was to create a “Munny Gram” in which the Munnys were delivered to artists a week prior to the convention, thus allowing them a wider range of materials to incorporate. Artists included Jason Flowers, Derek Yaniger, Brian Colin, Craig Hamilton, Tony Shasteen, Thom Foolery, Dave Cook, Michelle Poust, Sean Taylor, Tyson McAdoo, Eric Powell, and guest of honor Michael Golden.
100% of the net proceeds raised will be donated to Reading is Fundamental to support their passionate efforts to improve children’s literacy. To view and bid on the Munnys go to eBay.com. Bid now the auctions start closing tomorrow, March 1, 2008!
