Celebrate Asian Heritage in San Francisco
This spring, San Francisco is the place to celebrate Asian culture. The Asian Heritage Street Celebration is happening Saturday, May 20, 2008 in the Mission District of San Francisco on Valencia Street. By assembling the diversity of Asian Americans, the AHSC encourages interaction and sharing of cultures. The celebration also creates innovative programs and entertaining activities for participants and visitors.
It is the largest all-Asian event in San Francisco and in only four years it has also become the country’s most popular gathering of Asian Americans. In 2007, the event broke an outdoor event record of over 90,000 attendees, and this year participants are hoping to increase that number.
For comics and animation fans, the AHSC has great anime events. eigoManga and AsianWeek are presenting the Anime Pavilion at the fourth annual Asian Heritage Street Celebration. The Anime Pavilion celebrates the otaku (anime fan) culture in San Francisco’s Bay Area with live Japanese rock performances; an anime-themed runway fashion show, featuring original anime clothing lines from Japanese and Bay Area fashion designers; an anime cosplay masquerade; and many other fun events to tickle your anime bone.
