The Julia Auction Facility, located in Fairfield, Maine, announced that their winter auction was the largest to date, grossing nearly $2.9 million dollars.

The auction was assembled from various estates and collections all across North America. Some specifically included: the Estate of Jane Stradley of Kemblesville, Pennsylvania and Princess Anne, Maryland and selections from the Heldenbrand Estate of South Portland, Maine.

Some of the rare collectibles that were offered included a very rare American pilot chart book dating 1794. The book is one of the first editions produced, detailing the Eastern Seaboard from the West Indies to Newfoundland. The book received thunderous applause when the final bid brought in $408,250.

Another huge sale was an English Chippendale painted and carved chest of drawers. Circa 1760, it featured hand painted flowers on a faux tortoiseshell background with relief carved base and gilt pierced scrollwork feet. The Chippendale alone brought in $155,250.

Other fantastic antiques such as a fabulous array of folk art, Mid-Atlantic and Early American furniture, Oriental rugs, marine paintings, nautical pieces, and accessories galore were also up for auction.

Julia’s upcoming auctions include their important March firearms & military memorabilia auction, which will feature a vast array of rare antique firearms and will include a collection of 20th century military weapons from the late Bruce Stern, superb Colts, outstanding Winchesters, and a collection of rare Philadelphia guns from the Ron Gabel and Robert Sadler collections. Julia’s next antiques & fine arts auction will be in May.
