Youngblood #1 – 2
Image Comics; $2.99
What is this, the early ‘90s? We’re reviewing Youngblood? Who knew? Rob Liefeld’s characters have returned to the publisher where they were born, Image Comics, and the results are a surprising amount of fun. Liefeld has entrusted writer Joe Casey and artist Derec Donovan with the task of resuscitating what was once one of the hottest franchises in comics, and they do a great job of looking at the concept of a government-sponsored super team in the light of the cynical age we live in. The law of unintended consequences is in full operation by the end of the second issue, setting up what are no doubt even more surprises. If you’re like us and had your doubts but still have an open mind, give Youngblood a whirl. Congratulations to Rob and company.
