“It is widely agreed among comic collectors and aficionados that the most important comic book of all time is the first superhero comic book, and first appearance of Superman, which is 1938’s Action Comics #1,” said ComicConnect’s Ben Smith.

“This book is so rare, some experts believe that less than 100 copies are still in existence. In a hobby that has attracted millions of collectors, and with the iconic name of Superman recognized globally by hundreds of millions, if not billions, of the world’s population, it’s pretty big news when a copy of Action Comics #1 comes to market,” he said.

His attention to these details is understandable, particularly given his company’s success with copies of the issue in three consecutive auctions, and that they again have a copy in their current offerings.

Right now, an original Action Comics #1 is up for auction on ComicConnect.com. At press time, it has received 27 bids and is currently at $59,000.
