Throughout the long history of Johnston McCulley’s most famous creation, Zorro, the character has been used most effectively by authors (and filmmakers) who are skilled at blending heart-racing action and heartfelt cries for social justice. Matt Wagner may be best known for his quarter century on Grendel, the adventures of Mage, or more recently the magic of Madame Xanadu, but those who have read his take on Zorro know that he’s got this one down, too.
