Variety has reported that Rene Russo (The Thomas Crown Affair) has joined the cast of Thor as Frigga, Odin’s wife, mother of Thor and adoptive mother of Loki. This, of course, is not her first comic book character role. Her first noted acting gig was Eden Kendell in ABC’s short-lived Jon Sable Freelance adaptation, Sable.

Set for a May 21, 2011 release, the film will also star Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki, as well as Kat Dennings and Idris Elba. The movie is being directed by Kenneth Branagh.
