Comic-Con Closes in on Anaheim Move Decision
Industry news site ICv2.com has elaborated on a San Diego Union Tribune report that Comic-Con International is being lobbied by the Anaheim Convention Center to move there when its current contract with San Diego expires in 2012. Anaheim reportedly offers an additional half million square feet of exhibit space and many more hotel rooms (and a lot more traffic, for those who enjoy that sort of thing), while San Diego has thus far failed to fund a convention center expansion.
“A total of 300,000 square feet of meeting space is being offered by the three waterfront hotels, the Manchester Hyatt, the San Diego Marriott, and the San Diego Bayfront, free of charge for the next contract period of 2013 to 2015,” ICv2.com said.
They also indicated that the convention bureau has offered to double the number of hotel rooms it blocks for the event.
A decision is expected next month.
