125 years ago August 18, 1888 Out Our Way cartoonist J.R. Williams is born.
110 years ago August 22, 1903 Cartoonist Jerry Iger is born. He founds a pioneering studio producing material designed for comic books (with output including characters Sheena and The Flamingo) and editing the 1936 magazine Wow! What a Magazine. In 1937 with Will Eisner, he founds the Eisner-Iger Shop, which produces material for many comics titles.
70 years ago August 20, 1943 Sylvester McCoy is born. He plays the seventh Doctor in the BBC-TV series Doctor Who and, so, stars in comics stories featuring that incarnation of the character.
