Heritage Weekly Comics Auction Tops $213,000
A CGC 6.5 copy of Amazing Spider-Man #1 sold for $6,692 and a CGC 7.0 Restored copy of The Brave and the Bold #28 brought $5,497 as Heritage Auctions reported their August 11, 2013 weekly comics auction completely sold out with a total price of $213,363.
The company reported that the total realized was roughly 40 percent higher than average sales.
They said their weekly comics auctions have sold more than $7 million worth of comics, original comic art and memorabilia in the past 12 months and have generated more than $48 million since their debut roughly 10 years ago. The auctions open Monday mornings and close every Sunday at 10 p.m. CST.
These auctions have no minimum bids or reserves, and with most lots in the $75-$1,000 range, there’s something for everyone, said Barry Sandoval, Director of Operations of Comics at Heritage.
“[The Aug. 11 auction] had 11 of the top 20 Silver Age keys according to the ranking in The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, and lots of sought-after comics on top of that,” Sandoval said. “Luckily we have plenty of keys lined up for the following weeks, for instance we’ll have an Amazing Fantasy #15 almost every week for the next few months.”
Recent highlights from Heritage’s Weekly Comics auctions range from original art, such as the preliminary art for a Sunday Prince Valiant Sunday comic strip by legendary artist Hal Foster, to high-grade comic books, including pristine comics that came from the Harvey Comics files.
“This past auction included original art from the Estate of the great Joe Simon, Disney comics from the collection of former Olympic gold medalist Norval ‘Billy’ Craig, and more Harveys from the estate of noted collector Quinton Clem,” Sandoval said. “It also featured comics from the $2-million-plus Empire Comics Collection and very nice consignments that came to us from Germany and Greece.”
