Pedigree Adds High Grade Silver, Bronze Age
Wizard World Chicago was the place and Pedigree Comics President and CEO Doug Schmell was doing the shopping in advance of his company’s August Grand Auction, which is scheduled to begin on the night of Sunday, August 25, 2013 and last for 10 days until the night of Wednesday, September 4.
At the show he picked up a group of high grade issues, just under 50, of mainly Silver Age comics with a few Bronze Age issues included. They are presently at the CGC offices awaiting certification and will be graded in time for the auction.
“Almost every book is in NM or better condition and most of the DCs come from an original owner collection out of Brooklyn, New York,” he said.
The highlights include Amazing Spider-Man #16, #25, #39, #54, #64, #65, #129, Avengers #4, Batman #175, #232, #237, #239, Brave and the Bold #57, #60, Challengers of the Unknown #51, #57, #58, #74, #2, #4, #16, Fantastic Four #23, #31, #33, #35, Flash #175, Green Lantern #7, #58, #59, #63, #83, Journey Into Mystery #110, #111, Justice League of America #55, Showcase #38, #59, and X-Men #10, #13, and #43.
Schmell said he also landed a group of CGC-certified issues at the show, as well as the bulk of the Cole Schave Collection, which will debut in the auction.
Among these pick-ups, the highlights include Avengers #33 9.6, #48 9.4, Batman #235 9.8, Challengers of the Unknown #42 9.6, #69 9.8, Conan the Barbarian #17 9.8, Fantastic Four #12 9.2, Incredible Hulk #181 9.6, Sub-Mariner #9 9.6, and X-Men #24 9.6.
Pedigree is will accept consignments for the Grand Auction until midnight on Thursday, August 29.
“The sooner you consign your books the more exposure and press they will receive. Pedigree aggressively promotes and advertises each Grand Auction on many online sites and trade publications and we also send periodic newsletters to all of our over 18,000 customers announcing the individual auction items. There is no buyer’s premium on any of the lots in the auction and most of the books will have no reserve. Every book is CGC-graded and the minimum bid is only $100,” Schmell said.
