After completing their September Major Auction, the folks at eMoviePoster are back to their regular cycle of auctions. The latest Tuesday-closing event is a new installment of their internationally-themed “The World of Movie Posters!” This time the bidding is for 850 non-U.S. posters from 28 different countries.
Topping the offerings this time are a selection of films by Sir Alfred Hitchcock, including the Danish poster for Stage Fright (Marlene Dietrich and Jane Wyman), the British quad for Strangers On A Train (Farley Granger and Robert Walker), the Czech 23” x 33” 1970 double bill for The Birds and Psycho (Ziegler artwork), the French 23” x 32” poster for North By Northwest (Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint), and the Yugoslavian poster for Psycho (Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins).
Also commanding attention are several Finnish James Bond posters featuring Sean Connery as 007 including From Russia With Love, Goldfinger (Shirley Eaton and Gert Frobe), and Thunderball (illustrated by Robert McGinnis), and Star Wars selections including the French 23” x 32” poster for Star Wars (art by Tom Jung), the Turkish poster for The Empire Strikes Back (art by Tom Jung), and the French 15” x 21” poster for The Empire Strikes Back (with the Gone With The Wind style artwork by Roger Kastel).
Among the other selections topping the list are the German poster for Sam Peckinpah’s The Getaway (Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw), the Belgian poster for David Lean’s Lawrence Of Arabia (Peter O’Toole, silhouette art by Ray), the British quad for Don Siegel’s Coogan’s Bluff (Clint Eastwood), the French 23” x 32” poster for Andrew Victor McLaglen’s Chisum (Jean Mascii art of John Wayne), the Finnish one-sheet for Robert Zemeckis’ Back To The Future (Michael J. The most recent Tuesday-closing sessions featured folded one-sheets and they saw Thunderball sell for $925, Revenge Of The Creature close as $741, and Man Bait realize $377.
