100 years ago October 3, 1913 Writer-artist Fred Guardineer is born. His career begins in the Golden Age (and he contributes to Action Comics #1). He’s especially noted for his work on The Durango Kid.

90 years ago September 29, 1923 Cartoonist Stan Berenstain is born. He co-creates the It’s All in the Family magazine series and the “Berenstain Bears” kids’ series with his wife, Jan.

70 years ago October 3, 1943 It’s the last episode of the Dan Dunn adventure strip by writer Allen Saunders and artist Alfred Andriola. (Just wait till next week.)

55 years ago September 28, 1958 Comic-book and animation writer and producer Greg Weisman is born. He creates Gargoyles and produces the Young Justice animated series.

55 years ago September 29, 1958 Artist Timothy Vigil is born. Specializing in horror-fantasy, he co-creates Faust (with David Quinn) and creates Webwitch.

55 years ago October 1, 1958 Eisner-award-winning illustrator David Dorman is born. He is especially known for his Star Wars and game art.

55 years ago October 1, 1958 Marvel Comics editor Don Daley is born.

25 years ago September 29, 1988 Cartoonist Charles Addams dies of a heart attack at age 76. His gags featured macabre characters and situations – and led to the two seasons (1964-1966) of the ABC-TV series The Addams Family.

10 years ago October 3, 2003 Cartoonist and children’s book writer-artist William Steig dies at age 95. He created Shrek, among many other projects.
