Sundays at Comic-Con usually provide a little extra for the kids, and they (and the many longtime Scooby-fans in attendance) got a treat with the premiere of Scooby-Doo! Frankencreepy, a brand new movie-length adventure that takes the gang to the spooky town of Transylvania, Pennsylvania.

Velma inherits the old Von Dinkenstein castle complete with a laboratory perfect for bringing to life monsters sewn together from other creatures (Frankenstein-style). She even gets into mad scientist mode, and trades in her frumpy look for that of a magenta haired, Elvira-lite. There are mysterious bad guys, explosions, eating contests, unmaskings.. and lots of meddling… by those meddling kids.

After the screening, there was a question and answer session with screenwriter Jim Krieg, and Mindy Cohn, the voice of Velma. The recent passing of the Casey Kasem was acknowledged, with Mindy Cohn making mention of his charm and professionalism. One piece of news from Krieg brought a cheer/sigh of relief: Scrappy-Doo will not be returning anytime in the near or far future.

Scooby-Doo! Frankencreepy arrives August 5 on Digital HD and on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD on August 19 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
