The long-awaited spin-off to CW’s hit Arrow show, The Flash, debuts on October 7, 2014. The title character has dashed into television sets across the country before and one of the actors on the new show has as well.

John Wesley Shipp portrays Henry Allen, the father of the title character, and happened to play Barry Allen/The Flash on the 1990-91 version of The Flash. Henry Allen is currently set to be a recurring role on the new show, so longtime fans of the character will surely get a kick out of seeing the actor in Central City again (even if he’s not the one running anymore). Amanda Pays will also be reprising her role as Dr. Tina McGee from the first television series.

Perhaps Shipp, who got another taste of the DC Universe as the voice of Professor Zoom on the Batman: The Brave and the Bold cartoon series, will help mentor his successor, the 24 year-old Grant Gustin. Gustin has portrayed the Barry Allen character in a couple of episodes on Arrow, but The Flash will be the first time he’s been a series lead.

Currently, eight episodes are planned for The Flash, with the final episode bearing the title “Flash vs. Arrow.”
