A few years ago Volkswagen went to a galaxy far, far away in an adorable commercial featuring a small child dressed as Darth Vader. Set to Vader’s indomitable Star Wars theme song the boy unsuccessfully attempts to use the Force on exercise equipment, the family dog, a doll, and his lunch. Determined to achieve his goal he believes he has used the Force to start his father’s VW Passat, not knowing that the father has started it using his remote starter from inside the house.

The clever, and obviously pop culture savvy folks at Volkswagen have created another brilliant commercial, this time straight out of the pages of the Captain’s Log. Star Trek legends William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy reunite for a German VW commercial. It begins with a shaggy-haired boy playing with his model USS Enterprise when he realizes his new neighbor is none other than Shatner, a/k/a Captain James T. Kirk. The boy retreats to his Star Trek memorabilia filled room to change into his Captain’s attire and runs outside to meet his neighbor who invites him to take a ride in the new VW. During their joy ride the pair pass Mr. Spock coming the other direction. The former costars share a nod and a smile as the boy looks on in awe.
