It was announced this week that Warner Bros Pictures is in the early stages of work on Sherlock Holmes 3. It’s been almost two years since Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows was in theaters, making $500 million worldwide. Very little has been divulged about the upcoming film, except that Drew Pearce (screenplay writer of Iron Man 3) has been hired to write the screenplay.

Jude Law spoke to Empire about the as yet to be titled Sherlock Holmes 3. He has reportedly met with the studio about the project and they are currently deciding when the film should be released. Some incarnation or another has steadily existed since the character’s creation but Guy Ritchie’s 2009 Sherlock Holmes breathed new life into the character. Considering the time the studio is putting into the early stages of the project it seems that Sherlock Holmes 3 will be a good project rather than something quickly thrown together.

Will Robert Downey, Jr. continue serving as Sherlock? His career has been on fire for almost a decade. While most accolades go to his work as Iron Man in the Marvel franchise, the popularity of his work as the detective of 221b Baker Street is no mystery.
